Merlo Coffee has been powering up caffeine-lovers for over 25 years. The brand is one of Australia’s leading independently owned and operated coffee roasters but it beginnings were certainly humble.
Brisbane born and bred, Dean Merlo opened his first espresso bar in 1992, in Brisbane’s CBD. After travelling through Europe, he was inspired to share the true espresso bar experience with Australians. The espresso bar was a hole in the wall but what it lacked in size, it made up for in the amount of coffees they were churning out each day.
Struggling to source quality coffee beans, Dean then decided his next step would be to open the first Merlo Coffee Torrefazione (Italian roasting house), in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.
In addition to supplying the public and their own Merlo stores with freshly roasted coffee each day, they also supply more than 1,500 cafes and restaurants throughout Australia.
