5 Things to do in Townsville

Townsville is a City that we have completely fallen in love with. From the beautiful scenery, to the fascinating World War 2 history, we have a soft spot in our hearts for it all! With so many fantastic experiences on offer in the City and on its’ shores, Townsville is a diverse and vibrant hub that every Australian needs to visit. If you are planning a Queensland vacation but do not know where to visit, pop this coastal city up the top of your list!

Here are five things that you need to do next time you are in Townsville:

1. Watch the sunset from Castle Hill

Right in the centre of Townsville is Castle Hill, a giant pink granite monolith that is so tall that it comes up just metres short of being called a mountain. With 360 degree views, it is the perfect spot to watch the sunset at the end of the day. Castle Hill is also a fantastic spot for a hike, with a number of walking tracks on offer.

Magnetic Island truly is a beach lover's oasis, with 23 beautiful secluded bays and beaches scattered around the island. 2. Visit Magnetic Island

Just 8km offshore from Townsville lies beautiful Magnetic Island. Maggie is just a quick 20 minute ferry ride away, and is one of the best places in Queensland to see and experience the Great Barrier Reef. Head to Magnetic Island for a spot of snorkelling, beach horse riding, sailing, fishing or diving. It’s a true island paradise that you need to add to your Queensland to-do list!

3. Reef HQ

ReefHQ is the world’s largest living coral reef aquarium, where you can discover the magnificence of the Great Barrier Reef without leaving dry land. The aquarium houses 150 different species of marine animals and has a spectacular viewing tunnel that gives you a first-hand look at the many types of coral that call the Great Barrier Reef home.

4. Walk along the Strand

If you are heading to Townsville, a stroll along the Strand is a must-do! The waterfront area is home to many great attractions, such as multiple playgrounds, parks, a jetty, a waterpark, a pool and many fantastic cafes.

5. Visit the Jezzine Barracks

The Jezzine Barracks at Kissing Point are significant site for both the local Indigenous community and the Australian military. Today, the precinct commemorates that, through artwork, signage and the restoration of the Kissing Point Fort complex. With a coastal walkway and beautiful scenic observation decks, it is a must-visit for anyone visiting the Townsville area.
